Importance

Grade school is the best time for skill development. School work starts to pick up, teachers assign more homework and projects, and social situations mature. The pace is slower than middle school and students can really focus on applying their skills.

As students’ leave 5th grade and enter middle school, they are immediately surrounded by pressure from academics, extracurriculars, parents, social situations, technology, and so much more. Anxiety, procrastination, inconsistent grade performance and bad habits begin to arise.

Students who do not develop strong executive functioning and self awareness skills in grade school are often found overwhelmed and stressed in middle school as they try to balance school and personal life.

Peak Scholars’ emphasizes skill development and self awareness early because once a student masters a skill, they carry it with them throughout their entire academic and professional career.

Invest in skills early, rather than later. They pay off in the long run.
